What About Sweet Tea?
If you are from the South, or just enjoy a glass of good sweet tea then you know that the proper way is to make simple syrup and add it to your Iced Tea. It turns out that there is right here.
A real Southern would disagree with this concept and argue that it isn’t that hard to boil water and make sweet tea like your grandmother made it. But, we have made progress in many areas and this could be one that works (I have not tried it yet.)
It Takes So Much Ice to Make
Yes, I agree it does and not all of us have large bags of ice. However, this website, shows a step-by-step way to make iced-tea in an Iced Tea Maker without using all the ice. Basically, it recommends turning on the power of your Iced Tea Maker and adding the recommended amount of tea and water, except when you are done you fill the pitcher with plain water.
Then when you want to have a glass of tea you can add your own ice into your specific glass that you are drinking out of.
What About Flavored Teas?
They are all the rage now, aren’t they? Peach-flavored, mango-flavored, the list goes on forever. This website has a handy list of recipes for your favorite flavored tea. And, of course, there are not any rules so you can try any recipe that you want.
Remember this is just one example of an iced-tea maker and there are many other kids which may suit your needs better.
Best Iced Tea Makers – 2017 Reviews
This model is being discontinued so it will likely be more difficult to find replacement parts if necessary which may make you want to consider a different machine entirely. However, Hamilton Beach has very good customer service and will likely work with you if you need to replace this machine.
The advantages of the Hamilton Beach are significant. It offers an adjustable brew strength so you can choose whether you want your tea weak, mild, or strong and you can use either loose tea or tea bags in this machine without the use of a paper filter. Many of commented that this is a durable machine that they have had for many years and are satisfied with it.
However, the machine is not dishwasher safe and this model has been discontinued. It can be hard to get replacement parts for and machine these days as people find it’s easier and cheaper to throw them out and replace them with a new one, but due to this model being discontinued it will likely be more difficult now.
The Hamilton Beach Electric Iced Tea Maker would not be one that I would even consider due to it being discontinued by the manufacturer. This would seemingly make it more difficult to get parts and would make me question if they would honor the warranty. Therefore, this would be a no-go for me.
There are many advantages of the Mr. Coffee 2-in-1 Iced Tea Brewing System that makes it an attractive option. It is dishwasher safe – with a stain-resistant glass pitcher, has a fast-brew cycle, making up to 2.5 quarts in a matter of minutes, and can brew either loose leaf tea or bags.
It also has a brew selector so you can adjust the strength of your tea to your preferences. It also has a water reservoir with a window so you can see how much water is in the machine, preventing you from adding too much water and causing an accidental overflow. It also has a drip-resistant design for a more cleanly user experience. The machine is plastic, although the carafe is glass, and is BPA free.
The Mr. Coffee 2-in-1 Brewing System has a few issues that concern me. The thin glass on the carafe and the tendency of the carafe to break would not make my life easier, it would just give me more to clean up in fact. Additionally, the carafe is not covered under warranty and I prefer to purchase products that either have a warranty or have a company that stands behind them.
It also takes 2 brewing cycles to fill up the machine which seems inconvenient and rather a poor design. Although it has a fast-brew cycle if you must brew it twice to fill up the machine then it isn’t very fast. Finally, the use of sweeteners or loose-leaf tea in the machine tends to make a mess in the filter which is difficult to clean.
The advantages of the Mr. Coffee TM70 are numerous and make it quite user friendly, especially on those days when you are in a rush. It can make 3 quarts of tea in 9 minutes, has a simple on/off button with a power indicator light and an auto-shut off – which would be great for those mornings when nothing is going correctly.
It also has an adjustable brew strength and a removable brew basket. It comes with a water window in the reservoir and a 1 year limited warranty. One of the main things that this machine prides itself on is the non-drip spout; however, many consumers have complained about the leaking both from the pitcher and the machine.
It is machine washable but the pitchers often warp during the drying cycle which seems to defeat the purpose in a way, although you can purchase extra pitchers, and it would be convenient tohave additional pitchers so that you can have different options (decaf, sweetened, flavored, etc.) and that would be a positive for me.
However, the fact that the pitchers are machine-washable, yet they may warp during drying would be more problems than it is worth for me. It would just be easier to hand wash the pitchers for me. Additionally, the complaints of leaking would make me question this purchase – although I’m sure if you follow the manufacturer’s directions that would reduce the problem.
The Mr. Coffee 2-Quart Iced Tea Maker for Loose or Bagged Tea comes with a dishwasher safe pitcher, a 1-year limited warranty, and the ability to purchase replacement pitchers. It is also described as dependable from many who have had it – some for over 15 years.
This machine does not have an adjustable brew strength so what you see is what you get and there are also complaints about the pitchers warping during the dishwashing process. Finally, there are complaints about leaking both during brewing and pouring from this machine which seems to take the ease of an Iced-tea machine away.
What I Would Purchase
If I were to purchase any of the 4 machines listed above, I would purchase the Mr. Coffee TM70 3-Quart Iced Tea Maker. It has a strength for brewing option, holds 3-quarts, and is does not appear to be discontinued soon. It also seems to be reasonably priced if something were to happen and I needed to replace it for any reason.
It not only has a warranty but also a brewing strength option. It also holds 3-quarts which seems to be a good amount for entertaining or for those that really like tea. The automatic Shut-off and the No-drip Spout would make me more likely to invest in a machine with these features than I would any of the other ones.
Tips on Buying and Using Iced Tea MakersIced tea machines are good for serving large groups of people or when you are entertaining, unless you really like tea and then this may be a great product for you. Most machines will brew a pitcher of tea in about 10 minutes. Most of these tea makers also have the option to brew mild, medium, or strong tea depending on your preferences. The pitchers, or carafes, can be either plastic or glass and many are dishwasher safe but some are not. Some say that they are but those who have used them have experienced warping of the pitchers (plastic) or breaking of the glass when using the carafes. You need to be sure and do your research on which model you are willing to spend money on knowing that you may need to purchase another one or another pitcher in the future. When you are ready to purchase your iced-tea maker you should first decide on what size you need. Do you need a 3-quart machine? If you do, then you should obviously focus on that size. Certain machines come with features that are important to some people but not to others. Do you need a machine with an automatic shut-off? (I would, but I’m forgetful sometimes). Do you need a machine that makes sweet or flavored tea with easy clean-up? Is the strength of your tea important to you or to any guests that you have?
The available optionsfor each machine must be considered before you decide which is the correct machine for you. There are many websites that review the Best Iced-Tea Machines of 2017. Also, you should look into whether the machine is being discontinued as that means usually that the price has increased dramatically and they are coming out with a new machine soon.
Above all do your research and purchase the machine that works best for you, your family, and your iced-tea consumption. Some of these machines can last for over 10 years so be sure and get one that gives you the options that you need.
What do you think? Would you choose a different machine? Why or why not?
